Maybank Q4FY16 net profit rises to RM2.36 billion |

For the fourth quarter of 2016, Maybank Group's net profit was up 43% from RM1.65 billion a year earlier while profit before tax (PBT) stood at RM2.87 billion from RM2.38 billion in Q4FY15. For the full year (FY16), the Maybank Group posted a record net operating income of RM22.26 billion, a 4.8% rise year-on-year.
In Singapore, our
- Net fee based income rose 18.1% year-on-year, boosted by a rise in treasury income and gains from investment securities
- Loans increased by 4.5%, far outpacing the system-wide loans growth of 0.5%
- Deposits grew at 4.5%, also above the industry which rose 4.2%

| Youths share how Maybank empowered them to help ASEAN's poor |
|
On 21 January, we held the inaugural eMpowering Youths Showcase event, featuring the pioneer batch of six university teams funded under the eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN programme by our CSR arm, Maybank Foundation.
The programme, which was started in 2016, provides funding of up to S$30,000 for university teams from National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU), to carry out high-impact projects which address poverty issues in the region. In its pilot run, the programme has empowered over 200 university youths, and impacted the lives of over 1,500 people in Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.
The first Maybank Power Up Award was presented to Project Cheway from NUS, based on the outstanding community impact and sustainability of the project. The team of 23 youths had worked with Mercy Relief in the BASECO compound, a migrant community in the Philippines, to prevent flooding of the coastal community by planting mangrove trees and installing water catchment and filtration systems to harvest rainwater for household use.
During the showcase, we also announced plans to expand the programme to other countries in the region, leveraging on our business presence in all 10 ASEAN countries. |

| SME Banking team sponsors back-to-school shopping for kids |
|
Over 50 staff from our our SME Banking team volunteered to take a group of students shopping for schooling supplies at West Coast Plaza's Popular bookstore on 19 February. The event was held in support of the Festive Cheers programme by South West Community Development Council, to show care for the less fortunate during the festive season. Staff volunteers spent a meaningful afternoon interacting with the students, and helping them to select books and stationery items which would be useful for school.
