| Maybank Q3 net profit up 2.1% to RM2b |

Maybank, Southeast Asia's fourth largest bank by assets today announced a stronger performance in the third quarter of this year (Q3FY19) with net profit rising 2.1% Y-o-Y to RM2.0 billion compared with RM1.96 billion in the same period last year. Profit before tax (PBT) for the quarter was 0.3% higher at RM2.65 billion.
Earnings were lifted by a 14.1% rise in net operating income during the quarter, which came on the back of a robust 38.6% rise in net fee based income and a 6.0% increase in net fund based income.
Against the preceding quarter of April - June 2019 (Q2FY19), net profit for Q3FY19 rose 3.0% driven by a 10.3% increase in net operating income. This was attributable to stronger investment and trading income as well as a 13 basis points (bps) expansion in net interest margin (NIM) Quarter-on-Quarter.
Meanwhile, for the nine-month period to September 2019 (9MFY19), net operating income grew 5.3% Y-o-Y fuelled by a 12.5% rise in net fee based income as well as a 2.6% growth in fund based income. The Group's PBT, however, was marginally lower at RM7.75 billion from the RM7.81 billion in September 2018, while net profit stood at RM5.75 billion compared with RM5.79 billion a year earlier.

On 2 November 2019, Maybank partnered with MINDS for the fifth year at The Purple Parade, Singapore's largest movement to support inclusion and celebrate abilities of persons with special needs. Apart from staff volunteerism, Maybank engaged MINDS social enterprise in various ways to support the employability of their clients and showcase their abilities.
Prior to the event, branch staff at Maybank Tower and MSpace at Maybank dressed up in purple to create awareness and delighted customers with MINDS Bakers cookies.
Forming the M2 drumming team, Maybank staff also put together their second drumming performance with the popular MINDS Perform group during the Purple Parade concert segment. Performing together allowed Maybank staff to engage with the MINDS clients in a deeper and more meaningful way, and learn to appreciate their skills and talents. |
