Maybank opens its first branch in Punggol at Waterway Point

18 January 2016

First branch to offer banking services on Sundays

Maybank Singapore opened its first branch in Punggol at Waterway Point today to provide more banking services in an area that has been underserved in the past. Called Maybank@WaterwayPoint, this is also the bank's first branch that will operate on Sundays to provide even greater convenience for customers.

According to the Singapore Department of Statistics, Punggol had the highest proportion of children in the last two years at 11 per cent and 10.9 per cent in 2014 and 2015 respectively, a sign of the family demographic in the area.

The location of Maybank@WaterwayPoint is part of the bank's strategy to attract more young families to bank with them.

Mr Choong Wai Hong, head of Community Financial Services at Maybank Singapore said: "Maybank has always been focused on the family segment and we have built up a strong proposition through our product offerings such as Maybank Family Plus.

"Punggol is home to many young families and we believe that this is a trend that will continue given the large number of residential projects that are due for completion. We are well-positioned to capitalise on this growth with Maybank@WaterwayPoint and expect to see our customer base in Punggol and Sengkang to double in 4 years' time."

First branch to offer Sunday banking services

Recognising that this customer segment prefers to visit branches on weekends, the bank has also made Maybank@WaterwayPoint its first branch to open on Sundays.

"The role of the branch is changing with the availability of online banking services and the weekends are when customers tend to have time to look into managing their finances. Maybank@WaterwayPoint will allow us to provide more value-added services particularly as this segment looks to accumulate and grow their wealth," Mr Choong added.

The initial response from customers has been positive. Mr Jack Tan, 41, a pilot who has been living in Punggol for the past five years, said: "It is great to see banks like Maybank opening new branches in this area. Now, I can visit the branch to discuss my financial needs with the relationship manager while my family does their shopping in the mall on the weekends."

Maybank@WaterwayPoint is located at 83 Punggol Central, #01-12 Waterway Point, Singapore 828761. It operates daily from 11am to 7pm except on public holidays.
