As the saying goes, the more the merrier. For the first time, 180 social service users were invited to join in Maybank's Family Day at Universal Studios Singapore in conjunction with Maybank Global Corporate Responsibility (CR) Day on 24 August 2019, where they were treated to a day of fun at a seaside carnival at Sentosa as well as participated in a fundraising Charity Walk in company with Maybank staff volunteers and their family members.

More than 2,000 Maybank staff and their family and friends took part in the Charity Walk from Sentosa Palawan Green to Universal Studios Singapore (USS) to raise funds. In addition, staff, clients and corporate partners of the bank made generous outright donations as well as bid for limited edition Manchester United Football Club memorabilia.

The total donations raised were over S$500,000 in support of the President's Challenge 2019. Through Community Chest, the funds will be channelled to support Maybank's charity partners: Lions Befrienders, Montfort Care, Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and MINDS.

Dr John Lee, Country CEO and CEO of Maybank Singapore, said, "Driven by our mission of Humanising Financial Services, Maybank Global Corporate Responsibility Day is an annual event by the Maybank Group. This year's theme is 'Maybank Cares – Impact, Engage, Empower' which reinforces our commitment in creating and empowering solutions to improve the lives of the communities that we serve. The funds raised this year were significant, and this was made possible by our clients, corporate partners and employees who exemplified a charitable spirit. Together, we hope to empower those who might have been forgotten by the mainstream society, so that they too can learn new life skills or receive beneficial treatment programmes to improve their conditions and have a brighter future."

Leading up to the main event day, over the course of three months, almost 800 Maybank staff volunteers took time off from work to organise 17 self-initiated volunteering activities that ranged from bringing Lions Befrienders' seniors for functional screening to holding educational workshops for the families from Montfort Care so that they can manage their budget better.

"Nothing represents caring more than family, and Maybank has welcomed our service users into theirs with open arms. We are grateful to Maybank not only for this gift of time and act of service, but also for their proactive and sustained efforts in enabling Community Chest to empower lives. Maybank has been an exemplary partner in building a culture of holistic giving, fundraising, volunteering and becoming advocates of inspiring good within the community. We look forward to our continued journey with Maybank, as part of an even larger family across the social service sector, to build a caring and inclusive community for those in need," said Ms Charmaine Leung, Managing Director of Community Chest.

Maybank Global CR Day 2019 main event at Sentosa Palawan Green featured 10 booths from community partners to share on green and social messages to educate the masses on being responsible in environmental protection and sustainability. There were also fringe activities which participants enjoyed before the Charity Walk at 6.00pm last Saturday. After the Walk, everyone continued to have fun at Maybank's Family Day at USS.

To continue the spirit of doing good for the society after the Global CR Day, Maybank announced the launch of #InspireGoodSG campaign, which seeks to inspire the good in everyone by doing, recognising and rewarding more good deeds collectively as a nation. On 14 and 15 September, members of the public can participate by collecting their #InspireGoodSG cards at MSpace at Maybank, Maybank@JurongPoint, Maybank@Nex, Maybank@WaterwayPoint and Maybank@Yishun. With the card, you can share a good deed that you have done to receive a S$5 token of appreciation which you can choose to either keep or pay it forward to one of three selected charities – Community Chest, Daughters Of Tomorrow, and Food from the Heart. To keep the campaign going, pass on the card to someone else to reward him/her for his/her good deed.

This is the 10th Maybank Global CR Day, where over 22,000 Maybank employees worldwide have embarked on various initiatives to positively impact the communities they serve and show care for the environment in their respective locations from 24 August to 30 October 2019. This is part of the employees' year-long efforts in driving sustainable initiatives which are estimated to impact over 14,000 lives across 14 countries.
