Maybank Group Islamic Banking Ramadhan Relief Programme provides food packs worth RM1.7 million for underprivileged families
Singapore - The Maybank Group, through its Islamic banking arm, Maybank Islamic kickstarted its distribution of food packs containing essential food essentials worth RM1.7 million to over 7,000 underprivileged families across 11 countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
This food distribution community initiative is Maybank Group Islamic Banking’s annual flagship corporate responsibility programme - the Regional Ramadhan Relief (RRR) using Zakat funds, to distribute food items to underprivileged families during the fasting month. The programme aligns with Maybank Islamic's commitment to contributing to the well-being of local communities and the Maybank Group’s mission of humanising financial services across its operations. Since 2013, the RRR programme has benefitted over 100,000 underprivileged families and has contributed over RM16 million to support them.
Maybank Singapore (Maybank) has been involved in the RRR since 2017, distributing food packs and providing financial support to more than 1,200 families in Singapore. This year, Maybank Islamic Banking partnered PERTAPIS to distribute Ramadhan food packs to 200 low-income families, and Maybank’s Mr Sazzali Sabandi, Head of Islamic Banking, presented a cheque on 2 March to PERTAPIS to support their outreach efforts to help the vulnerable in society.
Mr Saktiandi Supaat, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, who was at the event said, “The partnership between Pertapis and corporate organisations such as Maybank to help vulnerable families is an excellent example where strong partnerships in the community lead to national good. As we tackle an increasingly complex and challenging economic environment, a partnership approach is key to strengthen our social compact and corporates such as Maybank can play a part. I would like to thank Pertapis and Maybank for their efforts to help those in need in the society and hope this partnership can be sustained.”
Mr Sazzali Sabandi said, “Maybank is committed to giving back to the community and we are pleased to partner PERTAPIS and support their beneficiaries as the fasting month approaches. This is only one of the Zakat programmes that we run to provide assistance and support as part of Maybank’s mission of Humanising Financial Services.”
Mr Firdaus D’Cruz, CEO at PERTAPIS added, "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Maybank for their unwavering commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of PERTAPIS residents and their families. This partnership embodies the true spirit of Ramadan, where the community comes together to support one another.”
